Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan and French First Lady Brigitte Macron visited Shanghai Foreign Language School affiliated to Shanghai International Studies University (SFLS) in Shanghai on Tuesday, November 5, joining students in a series of educational and cultural activities in an amiable atmosphere.
Upon their arrival at SFLS, Peng and Brigitte Macron received a warm welcome by the students there, who waved national flags of both China and France and presented flowers to them. After listening to the school headmaster’s introduction on the global engagement of SFLS, the ladies attended a French class about the Chinese and French food cultures and answered the students’ questions. In another class about the Chinese intangible cultural heritage, the ladies joined the students as they learned about and tried traditional handicrafts such as dough modeling, paper-cutting and embroidery. At the end of the class, the students gave their works to the ladies as gifts. Later in the Biology class, Peng and Brigitte Macron watched the students create Chinese paintings on leaves and reproduce eco-friendly reusable cloth bags. Outside the classrooms, the ladies watched the demonstration of how the smart garbage-sorting dustbin works, which was innovatively invented by the students.
The ladies also enjoyed performances by the students, including original songs and dances, and traditional dramas. “Transcending time and space, culture brings hearts closer,” Peng said. She hoped that teenagers from the two countries would gain a thorough understanding of both cultures and carry forward the China-French friendship. Brigitte Macron said she was deeply impressed by the students’ talents, their love for French culture and their inheritance of Chinese culture, and she encouraged teenagers from both countries to strengthen such cultural exchanges.
SFLS is an active participant of the “Exchange Program between Schools in China and France”.
