The 12th Shanghai Education Expo was held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center from April 9th to 12th, 2015. Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), together with over 140 other universities, institutions and companies, presented a panoramic view of the latest educational developments in Shanghai.
Zhang Feng, vice president of SISU, attended the opening ceremony on Thursday and delivered a speech at the “New Starting Point for Modernisation of Education in Shanghai” summit in the afternoon, in which he reiterated SISU’s commitment to developing itself as a top-notch globalized university and preparing global leaders to address the critical challenges of our times.
“Our mission is to cultivate outstanding professionals with global vision, humanistic values and innovative spirit, who are able to apply their practical abilities and language skills to ensure successful cross-cultural communication,” said Zhang Feng in an interview with E-Talk, a programme of the Shanghai Education TV Channel. He also introduced the efforts of SISU in reforming its admission procedure and education model so as to support Shanghai’s endeavour to build itself as a major center for scientific and technological innovation.
The presence of SISU was strongly felt throughout the event. At the opening ceremony, representatives of SISU student groups gripped attention with their performances of Chinese folk music, taekwondo and musicals. Besides, Professor Wang Enming and Lecturer Zhang Yutong from SISU held simulative classes on American culture and Indian religious culture respectively, both of which were well received.
Located on the ground floor of the West I Pavilion, the SISU booth was another highlight during the expo. With its total floor space of 114 m², the eye-catching futuristic booth offered a vivid glimpse into the academic achievements, campus life, social engagement and global presence of SISU with promotion films and display boards. Visitors were invited to explore academic pulications on the bookshelves and the interactive language learning/testing systems produced by the Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLEP) for students of varied ages. Meanwhile, students interested in applying to SISU were encouraged to talk with SISU alumni and teachers present for more information.
