Prof. Dr. Gertrud Maria Rösch, Head of the Department of German as a Foreign Language at the University of Heidelberg, gave a seminar lecture entitled the Innovative Road of Literary Studies at School of Germanic Studies in Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) from September 1 to 2.
Professor Rösch showed the abundant open e-resources in Germany, such as the “German Literature Archive in Marbach”, “Arts and Sciences Archives”and “German Language and Literature Compilation”. She showed several search tools of German literature by examples such as Vicky Baum, Inge Deutschkron and Alfred Dreifuß to help students understand how to use these electronic platforms.
During her stay in Shanghai, Professor Rösch visited the Shanghai Archives, the Shanghai Library to find the relevant background information of the female writer Vicky Baum during her creation of “Hotel Shanghai” and she finally found precious historical documents in the distinguished Xujiahui Library (Bibliotheca Zi-ka-wei).
The two-day lecture was compact, solid, and wonderful. Students said that they should use what they had learnt and make full use of existing open resources to exploit an innovative road of literary studies.
