Nepal and China have agreed to increase cooperation in the field of media and telecommunication technologies.
The two neighboring countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect during a visit of Minister for Information and Communications Dr Minendra Rijal to China from December 21-28.
Speaking at a press conference organized at Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) to brief on his China visit on Monday, Rijal said they have agreed to increase exchange visits of media persons between the two countries. The visit has been highly successful. The visit was an important opportunity to see development China has made in the media and other communication technologies, he said.
Rijal, who led Nepalese delegation comprising of a lawmaker and senior government officials, had held bilateral meeting with Chinese counterpart Cai Mingzhaou.
While in Beijing, Rijal held discussions with various executives and chiefs of various agencies related to media and communications including China International Publishing Group, Beijing Exhibition Centre of Huawei Company. He also addressed a gathering at the Shanghai International Studies University in Shanghai and visited China Free Trade Zone and Centre of ZTE Corporation and film museum while in Shanghai.
Joint Secretary at MoIC Kabiraj Khanal, who accompanied Rijal during China visit, said the MoU is expected to develop the long-term relationship and sustainable cooperation in the field of press and media. The two countries have agreed to exchange information, share experience and views on policy and regulations and development strategy in the field of press and media, he said.
In the three-page MoU, the two countries have also agreed to intensify exchange of visits and communication between the Department of Information of both the countries, strengthen media exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and share experience and extend cooperation in the field of press, internet and information published in foreign language.
Among other things, the two countries have also agreed to collaborate in the activities of regional and international organizations in the field of press and media.
