vana Zemanová, first Lady of the Czech Republic visited Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on Nov. 5, 2018 to strengthen Sino-Czech cooperation and communication in education.

During the meeting with Zemanová, SISU President Li Yansong introduced SISU’s history, mission, talents cultivation and the running of newly established Czech MA program. Zemanová showed her concern about the cultivation of Czech talents and express support for the development of SISU Czech MA program. Zemanová gave Czech students nearly 100 Czech books as gifts, to encourage them to learn Czech.

Then, accompanied by President Li, Zemanová observed the teaching of SISU Czech class and the calligraphy performance by Czech students. She also tried Chinese calligraphy for the first time.

During the class, the Czech foreign teacher Pavlína wrote a short poem and Czech students read it to Zemanová, who appreciated it immensely.

Chen Yining, the young calligrapher showed the art of Chinese calligraphy, also taught Zemanová how to write with Chinese brush.

“When I showed Madam Zemanová how to use the brush, she leaned in close and learned carefully, ” Chen said, “I thought she was very nice.”
