he UK-based higher education analytic institution, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released its latest World University Rankings by Subject for 2017 on March 8th. Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) ranked 15th in China and 368th in the world in the subject field of arts and humanities .

SISU has three subjects listed. The other two subjects ranked among the top 300, with Linguistics in 151-200 and English Language and Literature in 251-300. The rankings of two subjects remained the same ranks as they were in 2016.

Key indicators for the study are academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper and H-index citations.

QS was established in 1990 whose headquarters was based in London. It annually issues “the QS World University Rankings” and other higher education-related rankings. The QS World University Rankings, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) are considered to be the world’s three influential rankings of universities.

Notably, according to the lists published by the QS over these years, SISU, in 2016, ascended to 142nd in the ranking of universities in Asia, ranked 76th in the ranking of universities of BRICS. Both rankings reached 34th among universities in China mainland and topped among universities of foreign studies in China.
