SISU student wins second prize in national Vietnamese speaking contest

u Yinyin, a junior student in Vietnamese studies at the School of Asian and African Studies, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) got second prize in the 7th National Vietnamese Speaking Competition held in Sichuan late September.

The competition of this year was an unprecedentedly great occasion. 87 competitors had fierce contests, and they all delivered a three-minute-long theme speech as well as a two-minute-long impromptu speech. Among these students from Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University and other universities, Hu stood out with her fluent and idiomatic Vietnamese. Her excellent communication skills brought SISU a second prize.

The National Vietnamese Speaking Competition holds once every two years, providing stages for academic exchange in Vietnamese and East Asian Studies. It is regarded as the highest level of Vietnamese language speech contest in China.

Vietnamese is the official language of Vietnam. This language is based on Latin alphabet, and is widely used in Vietnam coastal plain area and certain areas of the Southwestern China’s Guangxi province. Approximately 90,000,000 people speak Vietnamese at present.
