T

wenty-three students in the first “Experimental Class for Excellent International Law Talents” of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) started their one-year or half-year legal studies abroad in earlier September.

The experimental class is sponsored by the China Scholarship Council and SISU’s International Exchange Fund. Students will study in various countries according to their preference, which include the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United States, Italy, and Hungary. This marks the phased achievement of Shanghai’s international legal education.

SISU’s School of Law focuses on cultivating “global, versatile, and practical” law talents. It carried out SISU’s first “Three Mentors” initiative (a mentor in legal studies, an international legal specialist, and a language tutor) with all-English law courses set up for the experimental class. It also established a rich source of internship and off-class platforms including alumni lectures and moot court/debate competitions.

The study abroad programs of the experimental class plays a significant role in SISU’s effort to nurture international law talents. Before these students go abroad, the School of Law gave them a series of orientations.
