T

he Students’ Union of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) will hold certain activities to celebrate the 18th National Mandarin Promotion Week this week, together with SISU's School of Chinese Studies and Exchange.

The celebration activities include two parts: an online recital as the online part and the offline part including competitions of tongue twister, Chinese dictation and dubbing.

The Mandarin Promotion Week was established by the State Council in 1997 with the first promotion week starting in 1998. It became an annual issue on the third week of every year, in order to promote Chinese culture in terms of the character and language.

The 18th National Mandarin Promotion Week is aimed at “appreciating the legal status of Mandarin and promoting the spirit of patriotism” since this year is the 15th anniversary of The Law of the National Commonly-Used Language and Script.
