SISU professors attend the 13th IVG World Congress in Shanghai

ttending the 13th Internationale Vereinigung für Germanistik (IVG, the international union of Germanic studies) World Congress,  professors in Germanic Studies of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) explained theoretically the features of the cross-cultural dilemma in a cross-cultural cognitive perspective.

The congress was held recently in Shanghai-based Tongji University. More than 1,200 experts and scholars of nearly 70 countries and regions in different fields, such as Germanic linguistics, literature and culture, discussed about the latest academic issues with the theme of “Germanic Studies between Tradition and Innovation”.

The congress is held every five years, whose membership has grown from 192 of 23 countries in 1956 when it was just set up to 2,000 of 70 countries. The congress set up five parallel sessions, which including a group of small sessions , holding two meeting reports, six theme reports and about 1060 session reports.

In the six theme reports, attendants discussed “Language Studies Between Tradition and Innovation”, “Tradition and Modernity of Germanic Literature”, “Goethe and Confucius—Surveying the Multilingualism from German and Chinese Language Angles” ,“Multi-Modal and Cross-Media: Chances and Challenges of New Media:”, “Today and Tomorrow New Vision of Germanic Linguistics Abroad” and “Tongji, Cultural Bridge of Today and Tomorrow”.
