On October 18, 2023, the opening ceremony of the 23rd “Week of the Italian Language in the World” was held on Hongkou Campus of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). Li Yansong, president of SISU, Tiziana D’Angelo, consul general of Italy in Shanghai, Francesco D’Arelli, head of the Italian Cultural Institute of Shanghai, and Simone Silvi, representative of the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana attended this event.
Prior to the ceremony, Li held a meeting with Ms. D’Angelo. He expressed his gratitude for the longstanding support of Consulate General of the Republic of Italy in Shanghai to the Italian major in SISU and looked forward to further cooperation. D’Angelo affirmed the Consulate’s commitment to deepening and broadening collaboration with SISU in various fields. She appreciated SISU’s efforts in promoting Italian culture and hoped for more Italian students to come and study Chinese culture at SISU.
During the opening ceremony, Li, D’Angelo, D’Arelli, and Silvi delivered speeches respectively, wishing the 2023 “Week of the Italian Language in the World” an all-round success.
This event, theming “the Italian language and sustainability”, aims at the promotion of the language worldwide and the exploration of its relationship with environmental and social sustainability. Maria Vittoria dell’Anna, professor from the University of Salento, delivered an online lecture entitled “Language and Sustainability”. The lecture provided a comprehensive and detailed explanation of the concept “sustainability” from the perspectives of etymology, history of development, and sustainable environment, economy, and society.
At the end of the ceremony, D’Arelli announced the list of winners for the Treccani Video Competition and awarded certificates to them.
The faculty and students from the School of European and Latin American Studies and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange attended this event.
