The Consul General of India in Shanghai Pratik Mathur visited the Songjiang Campus of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on September 14, Vice President Yi Yonggang met with the delegation.
Yi welcomed Mathur and his delegation, and introduced the university's disciplinary development, international cooperation, and the progress of its Hindi program. He noted that as China-India exchanges expand, the demand among the peoples of both countries to learn each other's languages and cultures is growing. Seizing the opportunity presented by the recent BRICS leaders' summit and the meeting between the leaders of the two countries, SISU is eager to leverage its strengths in multilingual education and area studies to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Indian universities and cultural and educational institutions, strengthening collaboration in areas such as faculty and student exchanges, teaching resources, cultural activities, and the development of Hindi language corpora in the AI era. Collectively, these measures will further contribute to the promotion of youth exchanges between China and India.
Mathur expressed his gratitude for SISU's warm reception and spoke highly of the university's achievements in Hindi language teaching, Indian studies, and the promotion of cultural exchanges. He noted that the visit, coinciding with the annual festival of Hindi Diwas, carried special significance. Language, he said, serves as an important bridge for enhancing mutual understanding between the two peoples, and there is broad space for cooperation in higher education and cultural exchanges. The Consulate General of Indiain Shanghai will continue to support the development of SISU's Hindi program and its exchanges with India, creating more opportunities for the youth of the two countries to strengthen ties and deepen friendship.
Officials from theInternational Office, the School of Asian and African Studies (SAAS), and other relevant departments attended the meeting. After the meeting, Mathur and his delegation visited SAAS, where they held a discussion with faculty and students of the Hindi program on topics including language learning, Indian culture, and youth exchanges.
