To commemorate the 55th anniversary of China–U.S. “Ping-Pong Diplomacy,” a U.S. delegation of table tennis and rugby representatives carried out a series of friendly exchange visits in Shanghai from April 13 to 15. On the afternoon of April 13, the Dynamic Youth Carnival in Shanghai and China–U.S. Youth Gala was successfully held at the China Welfare Institute Children’s Palace. The event was co-organized by the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Shanghai Sports Federation, and hosted by the China Welfare Institute Children’s Palace and the Shanghai “Community Jiuzi Sports” Association. Young participants from China and abroad gathered together, deepening mutual learning and exchange through cultural and sports activities, and continuing a new chapter of China–U.S. people-to-people friendship.
The event featured a vibrant lineup of artistic performances and interactive activities including traditional folk customs, Hanfu experiences, and demonstrations of traditional Chinese medicine as intangible cultural heritage. American youth participants immersed themselves in the rich charm of traditional Chinese culture amid a warm and engaging on-site atmosphere.
Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) actively participated in the event. The university not only selected an American doctoral student currently enrolled at SISU to serve as host, but also carefully arranged for members of its Student Art Troupe to perform on stage. They presented a multilingual thematic poetry recital titled “Echoes of Youth, Harmony Across Continents.” The performance featured selected classic texts from various countries, interpreted through a cohesive narrative structure. Through multilingual expression, it conveyed the profound friendship among young people worldwide and voiced a shared aspiration for building a peaceful future together.
For many years, SISU has remained committed to its internationalized educational philosophy and strengths in foreign language disciplines, actively promoting people-to-people exchanges and youth engagement in global contexts. This performance demonstrated the students’ solid linguistic competence as well as their positive spirit and broad international outlook. It also highlighted the university’s educational role and exemplary function in international exchange and mutual learning among civilizations, vividly showcasing to international guests the confidence and vitality of Chinese youth in the new era.
Resonating in youthful harmony, SISU students will continue to build bridges through language and serve as cultural ambassadors, actively contributing to China’s broader agenda of international exchange. With confidence and creativity, they will shine on platforms for global youth interaction, using art as a medium to foster a strong sense of national identity and expand international perspectives—contributing SISU’s strength and exemplifying the responsibility of the younger generation in advancing global friendship.
